Why volunteer to serve at Reading City Church?

Here are just a few reasons:

  • Jesus leaves us an example of serving others (Mark 10:45)
  • You were given at least one spiritual gift to serve others specifically within your church (1 Peter 4:10-11,)
  • Serving together is at the heart of Biblical "fellowship" and will connect you more deeply to your church family  (1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
  • Serving with your church builds the church into a more full picture of what God intends for it (Romans 12:4-8, Ephesians 4:11-14)

Most Pressing Needs

Preschool Volunteers (Sunday Mornings)

This class serves our RCC family by loving and teaching children who are age 3 through  Kindergarten.  The goal of the class is to introduce them to structured, Biblical curriculum and activities. Our preschool volunteers serve in teams of 2-3 on rotating Sundays.

- Commitment: one Sunday a month (9:30 - 11:30am)
- Best Fit : those who are comfortable interacting with children; prefer to commit to a regular, predictable time; and have a heart for being Jesus to some of our youngest church members.
- Requirements: Must complete all required clearances before serving

Ministry Team Care (flexible - depends on ministry)

Discovery Group - Middle School (Sunday Mornings)

Students in grades 5 - 8 meet in Discovery Group, during Sunday service time, for Bible study, relaxed conversations, and fun activities. The goal of this group is to help pre-teens and teens learn how to ask questions, learn, and participate in the church. Two volunteers serve together each Sunday the class meets (no 4th Sundays).

- Commitment: one Sunday a month (10:30 - 11:30am)
- Best Fit: anyone who is willing to be a consistent presence for students who are processing questions of faith and life in general, and enjoys being a kid at heart, doing fun/goofy things.
- Requirements: Must complete all required clearances before serving

Ministry Team Admins (flexible - depends on ministry)

Ministry Team Care  (flexible time - depends on ministry)

All of our ministry teams are made up of volunteers who  faithfully commit time and prayers to keep the ministry operating well. We desire to have a person assigned to every ministry who is solely responsible for caring and loving our volunteers. This person would help with volunteer recognition, send birthday cards, coordinate meals if someone is sick, etc.

- Commitment: varies according to ministry, occasional meeting attendance  would be helpful
- Best Fit: anyone who can easily notice needs, enjoys sending encouraging messages or thinking of ways to show appreciation.

Ministry Team Administrators (flexible time - depends on ministry)

Our ministry teams are headed by capable, visionary leaders who actively seek God's direction for their team. We desire to provide each of them with a support person who is gifted with handling the functional details of the ministry. This person would be responsible for communicating with staff and team members,  tracking attendance, and assisting the leader with detail planning as needed.

- Commitment: attend ministry team meetings and events (varies by ministry)
- Best Fit: someone who is organized, enjoys figuring out the steps needed to achieve a bigger picture, and prefers to do work behind the scenes.
